Michael J. McCormick, CPA, CTC
He started his professional career in private industry as the internal accountant for a chain of specialty retail stores. Where he became all too familiar with the realities of a business's need for a succession plan. After a year he exited the company to begin a career in public accounting. He cut his teeth preparing tax returns for individuals and privately held businesses. He also performed audits of private companies and non-profit entities. One year into the position the new owner of the retail business asked him to return as the Treasurer and Controller. For over five years he had responsibility for issues ranging from financial management, HR and employee benefits, to information technology. Late in 2000 he decided it was time to return to public accounting. Over the next nine years he would hone his skills working with self-employed business owners, medical service providers, manufacturers, and real estate investors, property managers, and wholesalers. He assisted clients in complex issues ranging from entity selection, tax planning, to succession planning. In 2008 he began to focus on providing proactive tax planning strategies to his clients. In early 2010, he decided that it was time to start his own firm and MJ McCormick, LLC was formed.
In June 2010 Mike published his first book, The Entrepreneur's Guide to Forming a Business Entity - Issues every business owner should consider before starting or restructuring their business. Available at Amazon.
